Marco is CEO at PME Investimentos, leading a company that manages several public debt and equity instruments like the Fund of Funds Finova and other specific Private Equity and Venture Capital Funds for the past 5 years, among them, more recently, the Co-investment funds 200M and Social Innovation Fund, two new instruments to foster tech, innovation, sustainability and impact investing in Portugal.
Previously he was CEO at Portugal Ventures, a Portuguese VC firm and Executive Director at DNA Cascais – Agency for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
He started his activity at AICEP Portugal Global – the Portuguese Trade & Investment Agency and after at CGD, a Portuguese financial entity. After that he developed for several years consultancy activities for public and private entities in the areas of management, investment and public policies not only in Portugal but also in developing countries within World Bank, EU and UNCTAD projects framework.
Marco Fernandes has a degree in Economics and a Master in Management aAnd Industrial Strategy, both by ISEG-Lisbon University and a PhD in Economics by ISCTE-IUL.
He participated in programs for executives such as Digital Transformation at UC Berkeley-Haas School, Strategic Management in Banking at INSEAD, Social Entrepreneurship by IES-Social Business School, Data Science by IST and Corporate Governance and Leadership by NOVA SBE.
