The Pandemic, Democracy and Venture Philanthropy’s Civic Engagement

  September 21, 2020     14:00 -  14:45

From the Black Death to AIDS, pandemics have shaped human history. Coronavirus will too bring transformations – in medicine, technology, government, education, religion, arts, social hierarchy, sanitation or the financial sector.

Will Venture philanthropy get involved in civic engagement – and more visibly in Europe? Churchill said: “Never Waste a Good Crisis”

But what are the pitfalls for VP supporting civic society engagement? What lessons, preparations and probably collaterals can be learnt from actors across the VP Spectrum (foundations, impact funds, corporate foundations)?

Objectives of the session?

  1. Making participants realise this inevitable trend.
  2. Learn from VP practitioners – from all parts of the VP spectrum – who have dealt with this in the past (pre-COVID) or going forward (in a COVID world).
