In recent years we have seen a rise of public sectors actively engaging in funding and investing in social innovation and impact business models. They include publicly funded and owned promotional development banks or impact funds; investment vehicle that are set up as public private partnership or, in emerging countries, blended finance vehicles. Public sector investors play a unique role in funding early stage social innovations, in investing and de-risking social business models, in catalysing private investments and thus filling an important financial market gap.
In this session, we will hear from reputable public sector investors such as Portuguese asset manager PME Investmentos in Portugal and French Banques des Territoires/Caisse des Dépôts about their unique contributions in impact investing, their achievements and financing innovations. We will also hear about how they collaborate with other investors and stakeholders and with participants discuss opportunities for public-private partnerships and innovative financing models.
